Today was supposed to be Labor Day here in the U.S. of A. No alarm clock, no coffee in a thermos, no rush to the subway. No work. Only fun. Fun the Caribbean way. Colorful, loud, smoky and tropical-like.
Every year Labor Day in Brooklyn marks the Caribbean Carnival Day Parade in the heart of Crown Heights. Among the thousands of pounds of corn and grilled chicken, the event counted nearly 3 million people some wearing costumes some just enjoying the show. Even in my three months in New Orleans for the Mardi Gras season, I had never seen such enormous turn out. Not to mention the wonderful music and the dances…
